My mother had checked in to this home in June 2018. The home is well maintained, ventilated, clean, tidy and equipped with the necessary equipments/machines needed for emergency purposes. The care givers are very kind hearted, caring, patience and jolly. The carers sent daily updates on my mother’s condition. This act certainly helped ease lots of our anxiety especially during the MCO times. The carers took extra length to cheer the elderly residents during those difficult times when families were not able to visit their loved ones. I still recalled that they gave my mother a surprise birthday party and sent us a video during the 1st MCO. My family were so touched by this. Also, they held celebrations on other festivals really moved us. There were so many other things that the carers had done for my mother which I’m unable to note each and everyone here. Nestled at a little foothill in Taman Tan Yew Lai, Amazing Grace Caring Home looks more like a retreat than a caring home for the infirmed and retired in an oasis of tranquility in bustling Old Klang Road area.

Set up in January 2014 by Jonathan Foo, a veteran in healthcare business and his dietician wife Eva Lim, it is a spacious seven-bedroom bungalow hidden away in a secluded corner, cooling and breezy with lots of greenery.

It has 26 normal as well as hospital beds with coconut-husk mattresses and side rails for safety and a spacious dining area enough for 20 residents at any one time. The huge compound is big enough for walking, exercise or simply soaking up the morning sun.

The interior is tastefully decorated and well-ventilated, with soft music playing for a calming effect. The flooring is of anti-slip tiles to ensure safety. Much thought is put into the lighting of the home to ensure they are comfortable for those with eye problems.

Amazing Grace has such a pleasant environment that it has even become sort of a meeting place for relatives of the residents and visitors, according to Mr Foo.

However, for the residents, they have to follow quite a regulated life. Wake up time is between 6am and 8am with breakfast between 7.30am and 9am. After that, it is free and easy. The residents may take a walk in the compound, do some exercise, sitting around under the morning sun, reading the morning papers or simply chit chatting. They may even watch TV, selecting the channel of their choice.

The major festivals are celebrated too, bringing in some excitement and cheer. Health talks and medical check-ups are conducted regularly and also optional physiotherapy, which is popular with the residents.

Mr Foo, who had spent more than two decades in the healthcare business, said medication management is an import aspect in taking care of the residents to ensure that they take their medicine regularly and at the correct dosage as specified.

Food comes under the supervision of his wife, Eva, being a dietician. Balanced meals and nutritional soft food provide the essentials for good health.

Amazing Grace has six caregivers, including four ladies and a kitchen helper. For emergency, it is equipped with basic oxygen tank, nebulizers for asthma patients besides the essential first aid kit. Doctors and ambulance are available on call. Caregivers have also received basic training at Alzheimer Management Centre and PDM and Geritric UMMC.
